DOH warns evacuees vs infectious diseases

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) has warned evacuees against the possible spread of acute respiratory and infectious diseases in evacuation centers.
Diseases can spread easily in evacuation centers due to overcrowding, the DOH said.
To stay healthy and avoid infectious diseases, the DOH advised evacuees to maintain cleanliness and always wash their hands with water and soap.
“Use alcohol if water and soap are not available,” the department said.
Based on DOH data, around 30,000 people are staying in evacuation centers in areas affected by Tropical Storm Crising.
Meanwhile, around 100 families in Malabon were evacuated and roads in Valenzuela were flooded as heavy rains brought by Crising hit Metro Manila.
After placing its disaster response system on “blue” alert over the weekend, the Malabon government deployed rescue vehicles and boats. There are 47 evacuation centers in the city.
Local officials urged residents to stay alert and coordinate with authorities as floods worsened in some areas.
In Valenzuela, floods had reached up to 13 inches deep along T. Santiago road heading to the Lingunan and Veinte Reales bridges.
Eight to 12-inch floods were reported in Barangay Dalandanan.
Portions of MacArthur Highway were also flooded.
